1941 FORD ½ TON PICKUP

Ford’s Sedan Delivery and ½ Ton models were produced each year with the frontal styling of that year’s automobile, also known as “Commercial Automobile” class, were introduced with the teardrop headlight styling of the 1940 Ford’s Standard Series automobiles. Produced by combining the automobile’s cowl and grill with the truck’s cab, the model 11C also show the lines of the renowned Ford designer Eugene Turenne “Bob” Gregorie (who also designs yachts), giving it perhaps the best appearance for a pickup of the period.

The 1941 design was almost identical to the successful 1940 Ford pickups. A number of features were new for 1941 and new for pickups: ½ Ton models used a 3-speed transmission from the 1939 series, which was standard for automobiles and wasn’t available on Chevrolets and Dodges: the gear stick was mounted on the steering column; there were hydraulic brakes, a curved front bumper and the distinctive sealed-beam headlights. As three different engine capacities were now fitted, the tail-gate, hood, wheel covers and the V8 logo on the dashboard were removed that year.

In 1941, Ford’s truck sales exceeded a million numbers, a historic figure for the company. Total production of the 1941 ½ Ton models was 89,394 s. That year, Ford halted the production of “Commercial Automobiles” with automobile front end, with the exception of the Sedan Delivery model. The ½ Ton vehicles were produced with a truck cab from 1942.
