Ortaya \u00e7\u0131kan \u00f6n g\u00f6r\u00fcn\u00fcmden dolay\u0131, halk aras\u0131nda \u201cFrogeye\u201d (kurba\u011fa g\u00f6zl\u00fc), Amerika\u2019da da \u201cBugeye\u201d (b\u00f6cek g\u00f6zl\u00fc) ad\u0131 verilen Sprite, \u00e7amurluklarla beraber a\u00e7\u0131larak motora tamamen eri\u015fimi sa\u011flayan motor kapa\u011f\u0131 ve yar\u0131 monokok g\u00f6vde yap\u0131s\u0131 ile sa\u011flamla\u015fm\u0131\u015f ilk spor otomobil oldu. 4 silindirli, 948 cc hacminde, 42,5 beygir g\u00fcc\u00fcnde, \u00e7ift karb\u00fcrat\u00f6rl\u00fc OHV motora sahip ve BMC par\u00e7alar\u0131 kullan\u0131larak Abingdon\u2019daki MG fabrikas\u0131nda imal edilen Sprite\u2019\u0131n d\u00f6rt h\u0131zl\u0131 \u015fanz\u0131man\u0131, aks\u0131; ba\u011f\u0131ms\u0131z, tek sal\u0131ncakl\u0131 \u00f6n ve damper amortis\u00f6rl\u00fc arka s\u00fcspansiyonu Austin A35\u2019den; direksiyon ve kampanal\u0131 fren sistemi de Morris Minor 1000\u2019den al\u0131nd\u0131. Sprite\u2019\u0131n be\u015fi ye\u015fil, 13 tek rengi var. Amerika\u2019da bir m\u00fczayedede sat\u0131n al\u0131narak m\u00fczemize getirilen ve burada restore edilen bu \u00f6rne\u011fi \u201cCherry K\u0131rm\u0131z\u0131s\u0131\u201d. BMC\u2019nin ideal yar\u0131\u015f otomobili olan, 1958 Alpine Rally\u2019sinde birincili\u011fi, 1959 Sebring yar\u0131\u015f\u0131nda da ilk \u00fc\u00e7 dereceyi kazanan Mk I, 1958-1961 y\u0131llar\u0131 aras\u0131nda 48,987 adet \u00fcretildi.
