1946 FORD SUPER DELUXE TUDOR SEDAN
Economic conditions after the end of World War II meant that Ford marketed its pre-war models with small make-ups. For 1946 Ford made some revisions to its short-lived 1942 model Super DeLuxe range, itself a modification of the 1940/41 cars.
In fact the production of automobiles in the United States was halted three days before the Pearl Harbor attack in December 1941 and Ford only sold 160,432 numbers of this car in the 1942 model year. This popular model was designed by Eugene Turrene (Bob) Gregorie Jr., the head of design department at the time, and his team, and it continued until the arrival of new models in 1949. Produced in three series, namely Special, DeLuxe and Super DeLuxe, the 1942 Specials were marketed only with the 6-cylinder engine. The Special line was ended in 1946. DeLuxe and Super DeLuxe remained in production.
This Ford Super DeLuxe Tudor Sedan was purchased from an auction in Florida through the personal efforts of our Museum’s founder, Mr. Ural Ataman. After the necessary improvements, it was restored to its current, magnificent original state and became one of the first cars to join our Museum’s collection in 1988.
In 1946, more than half of Ford’s production was the Super DeLuxe Tudor Sedan, which was the most popular model with car buyers, and was the most popular car with American police units. It also has a significant place in Ford’s history: when he passed away on April 7, 1947, the last design Henry Ford saw was this model.
