1957 CHEVROLET BEL AIR CONVERTIBLE
The mid-1950s are considered the time when the most remarkable Chevrolet models were made. The most desired and preferred model for collectors are the Tri-Chevy models and their convertible versions. Today, the 1957 Bel Air is considered a classic Chevrolet. In fact, the Bel Air had appeared in 1950 for the emerging US middle class, as a Convertible Hardtop without B-pillar, from Chevrolet’s Styleline DeLuxe series was introduced as the luxury coupe of the three-model range, with its distinctive curved rear window.
While it was the Chevrolet Styleline’s luxury coupe, in 1953 the Bel Air was introduced with four different models as Chevrolet’s premium range: there was to be a Bel Air in the Chevrolet range until 1975.
In fact, the most important Chevrolet innovation at this time was under the hood. That year, Chevrolet offered seven different V8 and one 6-cylinder engines. This Convertible was able to achieve 112 mph with the optional 283 cu.in. Corvette V8 engine. 283 V8s are known as the most popular engines built so far.
The sales of 1957 cars began in October 1956. During the model year, 1,522,536 Chevrolet cars were sold. The Bel Air’s interior was specified with a design surpassing its two main competitors. In our car, the Matador Red b ody, the fuel tank filler, the chrome piece on the rear corner of theleft tail panel are the magic element. The Bel Air featured power steering, a radio, heater and power windows as optional accessories.
Purchased from the same auction in the United States as the 1956 Bel Air Convertible in our Museum, this 1957 is highly original and has received very little restoration.
